Starter Course

We offer a 6 week starter course which aims to provide puppies, or dogs that have had little previous experience of formal training, with the foundations for future training.  This course will teach the owner/handler how to teach their dog using reward based, kind methods.  The participants should achieve the APDT Good Companion Puppy Award (or the Adult Beginners Award for those over 8 months of age).

Continuing Training

The Continuing Training class is just that – an opportunity to continue training your dog to build on the foundations laid in the Starter Course. Responsible dog ownership is the heart of the club, encouraging both owner and dog to have fun and the best possible relationship whilst at the class and within the community.

As part of your continued training, you will have the opportunity to attain a number of awards, from both the Kennel Club and the APDT (UK)  

Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme - Puppy Foundation, Bronze, Silver and Gold

APDT (UK) Good Companion Awards – Level 1 (Puppy/Adult Beginner), Level 2 (Foundation), Level 3 (Progress) and Level 4 (Jubilee)

Weekly classes are not all serious stuff though!  Games nights, parties, charity functions all provide opportunities to develop your dog’s skills using fun exercises, games and competitions.  We will also introduce you to competitive obedience and Rally obedience exercises, and occasionally have taster sessions for agility and flyball as well as group walks on summer evenings.
 

Young Handlers
We are keen to encourage young handlers. We actively encourage younger people to attend classes (with a responsible adult) and learn how to handle their dog in a responsible safe and enjoyable way.
